Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) Disorders develop when a body-focused action becomes compulsive and difficult to stop. While many people occasionally engage in nail biting, skin picking, or hair pulling/twirling, these are usually just nervous habits that can be controlled. For those with BFRBs, these habits become more frequent and harder to stop, often become a means of regulation and self-soothing, and likely cause feelings of shame and frustration to surface.
