Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
OCD is a mental health condition that can affect both children and adults and involves experiencing obsessions and compulsions.
Obsessions are intrusive thoughts that seem to pop up out of thin air over and over again and often feel impossible to resist. They rarely make sense, and are unwanted and distressing.
Compulsions are actions done to try and calm the distress when an obsession is triggered. They may seem to help at first, but the distress always returns.
Children with OCD often worry excessively and seek constant reassurance. It's important that parents learn to recognize the signs of OCD and help their child manage OCD symptoms.
Green Door is specialized in the treatment of Pediatric OCD. Our therapists have completed training in Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), and continue to meet regularly to discuss and learn new ways to creatively apply ERP for our clients.
