Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs)

Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours (BFRBs) Disorders develop when a body-focused action becomes compulsive and difficult to stop. While many people occasionally engage in nail biting, skin picking, or hair pulling/twirling, these are usually just nervous habits that can be controlled. For those with BFRBs, these habits become more frequent and harder to stop, often become a means of regulation and self-soothing, and likely cause feelings of shame and frustration to surface. Ultimately, BFRBs cause physical harm, emotional distress, and interfere with daily life.

If you are looking for help with BFRB's our therapists can help you. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Habit Reversal Training (HRT) have both been found to help with BFRBs.  Our therapists have training and experience in BFRBs and  can provide personalized strategies.
